For several years, David Benavidez has been trying to secure a showdown with the undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez. Many people believe that his size has been the reason why Alvarez has refrained from agreeing to fight him. However, Benavidez may be willing to give up that advantage. Despite that, Canelo refuses to fight him barring one monetary stipulation.
When I beat him, they’re gonna say, ‘Oh, they put that clause.’ So, nothing to do with that fight. It’s a lose-lose situation. I can fight with any fighter and make good money. I can do whatever I wan
Both Canelo Alvarez and Benavidez have very different physiques. Saul is 5’8 while the Mexican Monster is 6’2. Hence, the Mexican monster has an advantage in terms of reach and is also a natural lightweight. This is why Benavidez’s team offered the rehydration clause, which would allow Alvarez to weigh 25 pounds extra on fight day.
However, this does not seem to be enough for the undisputed champion, who believes that he has reached a comfortable stage in his career. He reiterated this point by mentioning how he has the liberty to choose his own opponents, especially after all his achievements.
David Benavidez speaks about the rehydration clause
The Mexican monster has maintained his stance that Alvarez is ducking him. Most of the boxing world agrees with this. He also pointed out how Saul called him “nothing” but demanded $150–200 million just to fight him.
Before Benavidez’s team had proposed to include a rehydration clause when Alvarez had repeatedly complained about the size disadvantage. Benavidez found this ridiculous, especially since he is demanding $150–200 million and a rehydration clause.
