50 Cent Joins Lil Durk for an Epic Performance of ‘Many Men’ on the 7220 Tour in NYC
As the ongoing “King of New York” debate continues to capture the attention of the latest generation of Big Apple rappers, Lil Durk took a moment to pay tribute to a previous monarch during his 7220 Tour stop in New York City on Sunday night, April 24.
Amidst the sea of smartphone lights, in front of a packed audience at Manhattan’s Hammerstein Ballroom, the Chicago rap sensation surprised his fans by bringing out none other than 50 Cent as a special guest.
In a nostalgic turn of events, just a couple of months after his memorable performance at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, the Queens, New York native delivered a thrilling rendition of his classic track “Many Men (Wish Death)” from the iconic “Get Rich or Die Tryin’” album. The crowd erupted with excitement.
Though this gold-certified single is nearly two decades old, it continues to resonate within today’s rap scene, having been reimagined by artists like Pop Smoke in “Got It on Me” and 21 Savage in “Many Men” in recent years.
Lil Durk and 50 Cent sharing the stage may not be a complete shock, as they recently collaborated on “Power Powder Respect,” the theme song for 50 Cent’s STARZ series, “Power Book IV: Force.”
In a 2018 interview with VladTV, Durk acknowledged 50 Cent, among other rap moguls, for inspiring his entrepreneurial endeavors, which extend beyond his thriving music career to include trucking and realty businesses.”When JAY-Z and others talk, like Drake, JAY-Z, Diddy, some people overlook it,” he noted. “They don’t create those motivational videos for nothing. 50 Cent. They produce real videos to demonstrate what they’re doing.
“It’s not to belittle you; it’s to motivate you. I’ve watched a few of those videos and tuned in, thinking, ‘Wow, I need my own real estate company.’”
Lil Durk’s 7220 Tour, which kicked off earlier this month in Phoenix, supports his seventh studio album, released on March 11. The album features guest appearances from Future, Gunna, Summer Walker, and Morgan Wallen.
Upon its release, 7220 debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, amassing 120,500 album-equivalent units in its first week. It reclaimed the top spot on the chart last week, accumulating an additional 47,000 units.
The next stop on Lil Durk’s 7220 Tour is Pittsburgh on Tuesday, April 26, followed by shows in Cincinnati, St. Louis, and Indianapolis. The 17-city U.S. tour fittingly concludes in Durk’s hometown of Chicago on May 2.
